2 Teams Battle To No-Decision
Irish and Indians Deadlocked at 10-All
A basketball struggle as colorful as last year's necktie and as
full of knots as a hickory limb remained hitched to the past Wednesday evening wit St.
Mary's and Banquo all square and no overtimes left to play.
There is no rule
requiring teams to stop after three overtimes, but both quintets walked off the floor
followed by their coaches, as much to say, "We'll call it a night."
The final score
was 10 to 10 after three-three minute overtimes, the first of which began with the same
score as the final.
In the nine
hectic minutes of overtime play, both teams made desperate attempts to poke the leather in
the hoop, but their efforts proved futile.
Fail To Hit
Time and again,
each team after gaining possession of theoval would dash desperately for the basket, only
to have the ball "loop-the-loop" around the rim and then roll off.
Neither showed any
brilliant spurts and not more than five points was chalked up by either for any period of
play.
The game after the
first quarter loomed as a stiff defensive batttle. The score stood 2 to 1 at the end
of the period.
During the second
quarter, however, the offensive machinery of both teams began to click more thoroughly,
and both fives managed to make five markers each.
Irish Scores
During the third
period, the Irish managed to score two markers while the Banquo club forged into the lead
for the first time during the game when they scored three points to hold a 10-9 decision
at the end of the third quarter.
The issue became
deadlocked when the Irish managed to score a charity toss during the fourth period, while
the Indians, although threatening dangerously failed to make an impression on their
scoring column during this respective chapter.
Both teams were
about evenly matched from a statistical standpoint. The Irish made 61 attempts at
the hoop making three good (5%), while the Indians took 63, making four count ( 6%).
From the charity line, the Irish got nine tosses and made four, while the Indians
took seven free throws and chalking up two.
